» How did you get into cosplay?I did my first “cosplay” (I don’t know that it was cosplay in these moment) by myself in 2000 when I was 10 years, and it was Misty of Pokemon. And in 2001 I did a Sakura costume (The Thief costume, because it was the first episode of CCS that I saw) But I officially discover the cosplay in 2002, when I was going to my first convention, because a internet friend ask me if I was going to go dressed. I search about cosplay and automatically I loved the idea! So I did a Marin (Saint Seiya) costume for my first convention, and since then I haven’t stopped! » Have you attended conventions outside of spain? If so, what were the differences ?The unique convention that I went outside of Spain was the Japan Expo (Paris) in 2009, because I have family in France and it was a good excuse to visit the convention too. And I will return the next year to contest in the ECG, because I am the spanish individual representative for 2012.
The Japan Expo it’s really, REALLY big and impressive, it’s impossible to compare it with a spanish convention, the stage is the biggest that I have seen in my life! And there goes people of many countries (In spain obviosly not). »You mention that you are a makeup artist, does that influence your cosplay choices? Yes, I am! and hair stylist too. But I don’t think that it was an influence for choose costumes, I choose the characters that I love.
The only thing that I can say is I think that I have a little problem with the blue skin characters xDDDDDDD. It’s my favorite colour, yes, but I really don’t like them for the skin colour, I choose for the personality and the design. »What has been your most challenging costume, and why was it challenging? Maybe I can say that my most challenging costume (for me, not for difficult) was the Garnet’s dress, because I usually prefer the “fighting” girls, and I am more usual to do wings, armour and other things before than big dresses...(but Garnet is my loved character, form my favorite game) It was my first princess dress and I put all my effort to make it the most perfect that I can. And I was a lot of time sewing beads for the green details.
But it’s difficult choose only one. I have many costumes that have difficult parts (and others more are easiest...)
For examples: The Palutena and Medusa (Kid Icarus) was difficult because has a LOT of stupid small details in the belts and a lot of armour parts, and snakes in the head! It was the first time that I make a sheild and I wanted to make it perfect. The Medusa’s weapon was a really PAIN to do, it was one of the first parts of the 2 costumes that I start and it was one of the last that I finish. Sylvanas was very difficult too (Armour,Sword,Bow...), and today I want to remake almost all of them with other materials. I like to surpass myself when I know do better the things. »What is your favorite cosplay or convention moment? I don’t have only one, they are like my babies! My favorite costumes are Garnet (FFIX), Angewomon (Digimon), Sylvanas (WOW) and Ayame (Tenchu).
And my favorite convention moment I think that was the biggest part of the last spanish convention: “XVII Salón del Manga de Barcelona”. It was a lot of good moments and I feel the spanish cosplayers more nearby than never.
»What is a piece of advice you would offer cosplayers? Choose always the cosplays of the characters that you like, start it with time, don’t worry when the things don’t work at the first try, enjoy making and wearing the costume and take a lot of photos! ;)
