» 5 Things to do Before a Con
-------------------------

» Inspect your costume for loose threads and trim them down.
Loose threads give the costume an unfinished look! So check all your seams and hems for threads that are hanging down. You can also bring a small pair of scissors with you to the convention to snip any you might have missed!
» Press or iron your costume.
Ironing removes the wrinkles and creases from your clothes, from storage or shipping! If you are staying at a hotel you should have an iron provided in your room, so before wearing the costume you can give it a quick once over to get rid of wrinkles from being packed.

Be aware that not all fabrics can be ironed!
clothingdictionary.com gives a list of common fabrics and if they can be ironed, along with other important information!
» Practice posing before the convention or photoshoot
Rather than improv poses at the con, it is good to get a couple together that you know look good! To get some pose inspiration you can look for reference pictures of the character and other people who cosplayed them.

Get dressed in your costume, or at least some of it, and practice posing in front of a mirror. This will let you try out a variety of poses and remember which ones make you look your best for the camera! Try dynamic poses, making faces and interacting with your prop - these will be more interesting than standing there flashing the peace sign!
» Plan your makeup and test it out!
Boy or girl, you are probably going to be wearing at least the bare minimum at a convention to improve your look in photos. Makeup is great for hiding pimples, covering shiny spots, and even changing your entire appearance! Plan out your makeup look and do a test run before the con so you aren't experimenting day of!

» Break it in!
This is especially important if you buy new shoes for a costume, since you don't want your feet to suffer as you walk around the convention!

Try on your costume and wear it around the house a couple times. This will let you find out what needs to be fixed while you can still fix it!

+ Makeup Tip: use a green based concealer to neutralise red blemishes and a yellow concealer to neutralise purple toned blemishes such as dark under eye circles. The reason for this is that to correct or neutralise a colour you must use the opposite colour on the colour wheel aka green neutralises red and yellow neutralises purple as they are opposites.

+ Cosplaying with flags? Be aware that they represent a country and can mean a lot for some people. You don't have to know all the flag etiquette, but be respectful with the flag you're carrying! Just because it doesn't offend you, don't mean it won't offend others.
